  1. Nearly a hundred years ago there lived in Ballylinch a man named Jim Nolan. He had no land or means of livelihood. He had a cabin with a thatched roof.
    Necessity caused him to become a thief he lived principally on sheep stealing. The matter was reported to the police, and they tried by every means to catch him But being a great runner they could never catch him they even went to the extent of bringing a couple of good runners to try to arrest him. One night when he was in his cabin the police surrounded it. They were sure they had him captured. He had a secret hole in the thatch by which he escaped. The police followed him but as he was gradually gaining on them. They eventually had to give up they never succeeded in arresting him. As the story-teller said that the king never "reared" a soldier
