- 129Many years ago when the people had no means of getting clothes they had to use spinning wheels for spinning and weaving wool.
This wool they used for knitting stockings and making blankets.
There was a man who lived in Gurteen named Daniel Comerford, who weaved blankets and coarse tweeds and linen. The people gave him the wool and he made whatever they required. He was "Danny the Weaver". Candles were made from rushes peeled and dryed at the fire. They had a "Grisit" which they put on the fire and filled the "Grisit" with grease and then they drew the rushes through it, and two rushes would do for one night. Soap was made from cows horns and hoofs.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
