"I'm not sure he really wants to attack us" replied the Priest "Anyway we must track him and see. We cannot take any risks." We made our way cautiously as the road was very narrow and the beast could easily have sprung on us from out the ditch. "He may leap" said the Priest to me "Keep steady" But it was too late. He had me by the throat. The stick fell from my hand in the struggle and lay on the ground. The Priest grabbed it up and drew with all his strength across the brutes head. With a terrific howl he fell heavily to earth and I got free not a hair the worse and I grabbed the stick from the Priest's hands but before I could deal him a blow he had disappeared in under the hedge.
