Ballybar Races (ctd from p.40) = the Puck Fair (Co Kerry) of Carlow and the Barronstown Races (Co.Tipp). The Races continued for a week in former days. When I was a boy we had three days' 'divarstion'. Sunday (free day) for sight-seeing, and Monday and Tuesday for Racing. All the 'trick of the lúbs' of Ireland attended, and all the Maggie Wattles, Big Wheels, Shooting Galleries " etc. The railway runs beside the course and all trains used to stop at the "Siding" on race days. Discontinued since 1906 or so.
