Potatoes and oats used to be bartered in the district. The people used not buy or sell after mass.
Labour was often given in exchange for goods.
The markets were held at the nearest town. Irishtown, Ballinadin/?, Dunmore, and Claremorris were the marketing marketing towns in the district.
Pedlars, pipers and dealers in feathers and rags visited the district long ago. They still come.
