- The famine of 1846-47 was the greatest for generations. In the end of June and the beginning of July the blight fell on the potatoes.
They failed all over Ireland and brought hunger all over the land and many people died on the roadside. They ate the turnips instead of potatoes. People that could afford to buy food in the shops shared with others.
The people sowed "baclóg" instead of potatoes. Almost all potates decayed in the ground. People burned cow dung instead of turf. That(continues on next page)- Collector
