    New Year's day it would happen for the year, for instance if a man smoked or a child cried.
    The Twelfth night when the people would be eating their supper, they light 12 candles and put them into a turnip. Whichever candle wears away first the one that named it is the first to die.
    On Saint Bridget's night all girls dress up in old clothes, they also make a doll and call it a "Brideog" then they go around the village from house to house playing music, dancing, and gathering money.
    Long ago people used to make a cross with straw and put it over the room door so that they would be under St Bridget's protection for the year. Long ago on Ash Wednesday the people used drink black tea, and
