- When a cow died they kept the two forelegs, hoofs hide and all, and put them under the rafter of the cow house.
If a calf died of blackleg the same thing was done but they burned one of the calf's feet in the cowhouse. This was believed to prevent the disease from striking the cattle again. In old cow houses still, you can see bundles of these bones and hooves under the rafter.- Informant
