Straw men used to go to the house dressed in straw and their clothes turned inside out. They would be given drink and a good meal. The bride would dance with each man then. After the wedding the young couple would have several side cars and the horses galloping very fast. They used to go around the country and then race home to see who would arrive first, but the winner would wait at the end of the boreen til the bride and the bridegroom would lead the procession up to the house(continues on next page)
