    do some field work before breakfast. A favorite meal for dinner was buttermilk, salt and potatoes. When loaves came into use a woman used to go round the district with an ass and cleaves selling them. Nettles were boiled with lard and eaten on Fridays. Herrings were also obtainable in the local shops. On special feasts different kinds of food were eaten on Easter Sunday because the eggs were plentiful at that time.
