    night he started digging. For half an hour he laboured and then he heard the spade ring. He became excited thinking he had the treasure and after a few more minutes he unearthed half a horse-shoe and three pence in coppers. He kept digging until dawn but found nothing else.
    The pot of gold was put in Thomas Tarpeys field by the leipreachaun. It is under a hawthorn tree and there is a well near it. One morning when Thomas Tarpey was going to the well he saw a trench dug around the tree and a crucifix and holy water bottle lying on the soil. He was afraid to do anything
