- The people of the olden times were never called their proper name particularly the men. They were called Nicknames. We had this composition for last week. But the day came wet and we did not do it so I went looking for Nicknames and I got a few.
Tom Durkin of Cashel was called Sticks because he always has a stick.
Martin Lavin was called Rat but I could not find out why he was called that. Hugh Lynskey was called Bear because he was rough and was always fighting. Tom McDonnell was called Priest but I did not(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
