- Houses were thatched long ago. This thatch was got and cut on the mountain. All the old houses had a bed in the kitchen. It was placed at one side of the fire and it was called the "Cailleac". The fire place was always at the gable. Glass was not in the houses long ago; stones and wire that was used instead of glass. The chimneys were made of wattles and clay. Floors were made of clay and sand and flags. Half-doors are common in this district still. Fires stuff was turf, scraws and wood. The light at night was bogdeal splinters and candles. Candles were made locally.
