    People in this district were very careful about minding their butter from fairies.

    the "luck" of the butter from them to yourself or some other party. If you took the churn dash, this power would be gone from you. There are some people still around here who believe in the power the fairies have on butter. They expect any person that enters a house during a churning to take a short while at the work. When the churning was done, a small piece of the butter was stuck to the wall of the house. This was done to please the "good people" so that they taste it to their satisfaction if they happened to call to the home.
