    Luck money is usually given when a beast is sold. The amount depends on the value of the animal and the price obtained for it. The luck money given with a horse is from five shillings to ten. The amount given with a cow is from two shillings to two and sixpence; with sheep sixpence or a shilling, and with pigs a shilling.
    Custom is taken up by the owner of the fairgreen if the beast is sold.
    There used to be good fairs for horses and cattle long ago in Newtown Gore. It is situated midway between Crossmolina and Ballina. Long ago there was family named Gore living in Newtown and ever since, this place is called after them. The two fairs that are held in it are the 4th
