    around the neck. This chain is attached to an iron ring which is round an upright stick embedded in the ground and extending up to the roof. This chain moves up and down as the cow raises or lowers her head.
    There is a channel about a foot wide and six inches deep behind the cows. It is flagged, and it is level and is very easy cleaned.
    When a cow is after calving there is an alive coal brought out to the cow-house in the tongs and the sign of the cross is made on the cows back with it.
