  1. A Song (continued)

It is years ago, dear Erin

    (continued from previous page)
Goodbye, goodbye, my dear old friends
    from you I never hear
But when you read these simple lines
you will hold my memory dear
I think of you wherever I be.
until death may lay me low
    Goodbye, goodbye old Nephin Hill
    and God be with Mayo.

  2. A Song

Goodbye, goodbye, my dear old friends

This song was composed by Andrew Houston who lived in Doon-breedia in the parish of Addergoole. His father was a school teacher and taught for many a year in the school which is referred to in the song. Andrew had a brother named Thomas. Both emigrated to England. Andrew composed this song and sent it home. Some 70 years ago this happened.
