- The old roads in our district are as follows:-
“Bothar Buide” leading to Pontoon and Foxford.
“Goirtín A Muc” road to Ballina and Foxford.
“Han Pandle” road to Ballina.
“Shan Cloch” road leading from the main road to a village the name of Knockmore.
In Shraheen the women used to work at the making of the roads, and their pay was four stones of meal per week.Roads leading to Mass-rocks:-
To this day a road leading to a mass-rock, at the side of a mountain called “Bráid,” can be gtraced, but is covered with briars and grass.Means of crossing Rivers:-
The people used to cross a river by stepping stones called “Flags”, before the bridges were made. After a flood the stones used to be very slippery so the people crossed in boats.Cross Roads:-
At a cross-roads near Foxford, two giants are buried. When the people passed the way, they used to throw a stone on the cairn of stones, but the people pass now(continues on next page)- Collector
