- Father O'Grady was Parish priest of this parish in 1798. The Parish Church was then in Rathrea. The ruins are still standing in the old graveyard. The Parish Priest lived then in the very house in which Corcorans live now in Ardnagor.
Father O'Grady was not on the French side, and advised his people not to have anything to do with the people who were after crushing the Catholics in La Verdee in France.
Some trouble arose between himself and his parishioners, who tried to drive him out of the parish. They drove him as far as a whitethorn bush which is still to be seen on the road to Killala beyond the house where the Stones family live at Bally Gowen. here he put his back to the ditch(continues on next page)- Informant
