milk if it is plentiful. The pigs have to get rings in their noses to keep them from turning up the sods.
The sheep never lie in a house at night except when they are lambing. They are put in a house for about a fortnight till the little lambs are big and strong. The sheep never feel the cold because they have a very thick coat of wool and they are able to lie out all the year round. The sheep eat nothing but grass in the Summer but in the Winter time they get turnips and oats to eat. The goats sleep in a goat house at night. The goats are not as common now as they were. The goats are very fond of turnips and they like to eat all the bushes round about. They like to climb far up on the mountain and eat the short sweet grass and the heather. People say that goat’s milk is very healthy and very good to drink.
