  1. The Saldana sank in Ballymastocker Bay in Lough Swilly in the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was carrying dispatches to Buncrana. A very heavy snow storm came on and the ship hit the Swilly rock and sank. All the three hundred sailors were drowned except one who swam ashore and died. A legend says that they nearly all got ashore and the Irish killed them.
    The Laurentic was sunk in January 1917 in Lough Swilly. It was carrying gold bars to America. It came into Rathmullan for shelter
