    flour is put into the bread-basin and two tea-spoonfuls of soda are added and mixed then a bowl of butter-milk is put in it and the dough is well mixed and is then shaped in the form of the oven and this shaped dough is put in the oven and the oven is put on the crook and the lid is put on it.
    My mother then puts live coals on top of the lid. When the scon is baked through and through she lifts the lid with the coals from the oven and lifts the scon out and leaves it to cool.
    The people in this district sometimes make potato - bread or "fadge". They usually have potatoes alone called "poundies" for dinner that day and the fadge is made from
