BOTH CHONAIS(I)Far from congested haunts of men,
Clonmany's hills mute gaurdians brood,
Above a quiet mountain glen,
Where once a specious abbey stood,
Twas founded in the days of yore
When Finshneact reigned on Tara's throne,
And Cineal Eoghan of Aileach Mór,
The septre held of Inishowen.
(II)Down centuries, grim, peril fraught,
Through war on rapine it endured,
While pious monks there prayed and taught,
The myriads students thither lived,
By rumors of its lores renowned,
There eager prince and peasant came,
From sumptuous hall and shieling brown,
In quest of knowledge and of fame.
(III)No more the music of its bells,
At golden morn or evening dim,
Along these hills and valleys swells,
No fervent prayer or vesper hymn,
Are chanted there by votive monks.(continues on next page)- Collector
