- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)twice a week in the summer time and once a week in the winter time. On account of the cold and bad weather during winter, the cows do not give so much milk as they do during summer. To keep up the milk supply during winter the farmers give "by bites" to the cows. By bites are in plain english extra feeding.
Strangers who might happen to enter during churning are supposed to say "God bless the churn" and are supposed to help in the churning.
It takes a person about half an hour to churn. When the milk is half churned tiny specks of yellow appear on the top of the milk but when the milk is churned huge lumps of yellow appear. This is the butter. It is then made into "measgains" with small wooden spades.
