  1. A number of children gather together and walk round in a circle and while walking round they say.
    Green Gravel Green Gravel
    The grass is so green
    The fairest young lady
    That ever was seen
    I washed her in milk
and I dressed her in silk
and I wrote down her name
With a gold pen and ink.
Dear Rose dear Rose your true love is dead. I sent you a letter to turn round your head. When your name is called you turn your back to the rest of the circle and the game is performed over again until every one of the children has their heads turned.
