(Skerries, Co. Dublin)The potatoes as we know are nowadays dug by more modern equipment than long ago. When a field might be seen black with people digging. But this was formerly used in Skerries was very slow, while one man was digging another was behind him shaking the stalks and one behind him again picking. But nowadays all a man has to do is to sit up on a potato digger and run it beside a drill and the potatoes are dug up in a jiffy. The men put them in sacks and they are carted off to the farm.
