(Skerries, Co. Dublin.)The village of Loughshinny is about three and a half miles from Skerries. Every night the fairies would come and sing and dance outside the peoples' houses until morning. The people used to be afraid to let their children out to play at night because they knew the fairies would come and take them away. If the people were leaving their children for one minute they would have to put a piece of salt in their pockets. By doing this they knew the fairies would not touch them.
