- The most time people get married is from new years day to Ash Wednesday. They call it shrove. They had no motor cars or side cars long ago. They used horses and carts. The couple used to go on horse back. They used to race home from the church. The first horse at home was the best horse. All the friends both boy friends and girl friends would go to the house. They would have a merry night dancing and singing.
