The next scene was in New Ross town
Where there was a mighty throng:
Bands and green banners to the Work-house marched along
    Many familes were evicted there
And made for the Poor-house gate,
Where they intended to watch their homes
    Until they emigrate.

So God pity poor old Eire
In the Winter that is nigh,
There is a dark and dreary cloud
Hanging o'er her in the sky.
So let the landords turn around
And a fair rent let them fix.
And we'll have peace once more in Ireland,
    In September '86.
