- Weather Lore1. When smoke ascends in an upright direction it means good weather, and if the line of ascent be slant it is a sign of rain.2. If the crickets chirp sharply it is a sign of rain.3. If a cat scrapes timber, or the pier of a gate it indicates stormy weather.4. A belt of white in the sky resembling a rainbow in shape and extending from North to South, or East to West is a sign of rain.5. Crows fighting (indicated by raucous cawing) in the air means a storm.6. North for frost or for dructh (wind)
South for rain
East wind cold and dry
West wind changeable.7. Swallows flying low is a sign of rain.8. A sign of rain is when "the distant hills look nigh".9. A sign of a break in the weather is to see a dog eating grass.10. Dust on the road is a sign of rain.11. When flies are seen resting on animals it shows a change in the weather.(continues on next page)
