- (continued from previous page)changed, a bell was heard ringing on Chapel Island. No rats or mice live on the island, and to rid barns, +c. of these pests, clay from the island is scattered in them and the rats and mice disappear immediately. A peculiar fact is that the adjoining islands are infested with rats. Fishermen carry bits of mortar of the Chapel in their boats to save them from drowning.
