    Long ago there were no county shops as there are nowadays. In ancient times when the peopel wanted anything they had to travel three or four miles before they could get it.
    Sometimes they brought money with them as payment. Or if it was the woman of the house that went she generally brought eggs and butter as payment for the house generally went to town once a week and brought what did them from one week to the next.
    sometimes whatever they wanted they might not get it in manorhamilton and they would have to go into sligo for it; they always went to sligo to sell firkin of butter and they generally walked and carried about 90lbs of butter and their baskets. Sligo is about 20 miles from here. Nowadays we do not know the awkward way the people were in long ago when there were no country shops. there are country shops now and
