It is the usual custom on Hallowe'en for the people to play many tricks such as ducking for an apple in a tub of water or putting a blindfold on yourself and hanging an apple on a string from the roof and trying to get a bite out of it.
The twelve days of Christmas are supposed to represent the twelve months of the year. If the twelve (months) days of Christmas are wet the year will be a bad one.
If it rains on St. Swithen's Day it is supposed to rain for forty days.
