  1. There are a great number of feasts kept in this district such as Saint Briged's Night.
On St. Briged's Night it is customary to make rush crosses. In olden times people used to do it differently to what we do now. One of the family used to cut a bunch of rushes and hide it without letting the others see where they put it. About nine o'clock at night the person who got the rushes would go out, get the rushes and come to the back door with them. Then they would knock and one of the parents would say "who is there."
