- When a person enters a house in which churning is in progress, he is expected to take a ''brash'' that is the take hold of the churn, dash and give a few strokes, otherwise he may ''bring the butter" with him.If a man who wants to smoke his pipe goes into a houses while they are churning, he is not allowed to take a match or a "coal" form the fire - he must light his pipe and smoke inside, he may bring the butter from the milk if he breaks these rules.(continues on next page)
