    girls have emigrated to America and England from this district - during the last three years they have flocked to England and now there is just one young person left in each house.
    The land is rough, poor, and mountainous and yields poor crops. Work is done by hand - the spade and shovel, and machinery is seldom used in the farm work, except the mowing-machine and the plough.
    The crops raised are:- potatoes, oats, wheat, cabbage, onions, turnips, parsnips, carrots, lettuce, and sometimes rye. Most of these crops are consumed - potatoes and vegetables form a great part of the people's food, while the oats is given to horses, cattle and hens. Sometimes the donkeys are given a "feed"
