When he came to Athlone he rested in a hole. A piper came next and began to play music. The eel bewitched him and he went down to the hole and began to play. Next day people heard the music, but soon the eel ate him up. This hole is called the Piper's hole. The eel proceeded on his way to Lough Ree, where he was attacked by(continues on next page)
