“I am not acquainted with the forts of this (Jamestown) district but I will describe a chain of forts in the Liss”
I am not acquainted with the forts in this (Jamestown) district but I will describe a chain of forts in the Liss - Curryolish - Portanought district (Carrick on Shannon). My Grandmother told it to me -
They are near each other, each one on a hill and are of a similar description. They are all circular in shape with an outer earthen fence and trench and an underground chamber.
The fort in Port an ucht (or each) was guarded by three white horses who paid a round of visits to the other forts every night. They were seen travelling with fiery breath and 'fleet as the wind'.(continues on next page)- Collector
