   land used to burn lime in kilns, in the winter time the men would gather together and burn as much lime as would do them for putting on the land. Men used to go fishing in the summer nights with long rods and nets and used to catch a lot of fish which they enjoyed eating very much.

   The old people tell stories of the great famine of 1846-47. It caused great destruction in Ireland. Ireland was thickly populated before this famine. There are several ruins of houses where people lived before the famine throughout the country. In the Co. Longford there lived a man and his wife and their son. Their son died of a disease early in the year of 1846. After some time this man's wife died of hunger. The man was very poor. He had no money to buy a coffin. He wrapped her remains in a bag and put it on his donkey's back and started for Farnaught graveyard to bury the corpse. When he had the corpse buried he started for home but sad to say he died on
