The Cloone & Mohill linen and yarn sellers were obliged to come to Aughavas and obtain a 'pass' from Harkness, who lived beside Corfuff N.S or Deacons, who lived in Drumerkane to allow them free access to the great linen market of Killeshandra. They were never safe if they were late in returning. They could not travel alone or if they did they were always sure to be assaulted by yeomen, who lived in Drumerkane where John Reynolds now resided All the Catholic neighbours had to be ready to fight when a row started. Tom McDermott, Billy Wilson's journey man blacksmith was always ready for any emergency. He cracked many a yeoman's skull though his employer was a Protestant, but at the same time a man who hated cruelty & oppression.
Our yeomen of a hundred years ago in Aughavas held unusual sports, horse-racing from Drumerkane to Cloone by Breffni Ho. the residence of the O'Rourkes. They had target practice at Ballyknockin meadow near Cloone. The people had to clear off the roads into the hills and bogs. There was a military barracks where James Kiernan's now stands with a cattle pound beside it.
