- In olden times shops were not very common and the people used to go to the nearest town to buy food stuff and clothes. When they were buying and selling they used to swop one thing for another. If one of the things swopped was not as valuable as the other thy would be money given and this money was called "loot". Long ago people used to go around gathering rags and feathers and those people were called rag men. Some of those people are still going around.
