Local Song (continued)
“I got an ugly nasty fall.”
(continued from previous page)Hopping and crawling with the load
Until I reached my own abode
Down among the trees.
I took off my clothes and went to bed.
To rest my bones and weary head
I turned as cold as a lump of lead
Before I went to sleep.
Next morning then when I awoke
I thought with thirst I'd surely choke.
For I could neither eat nor drink nor smoke.
1911! it almost made me weep
I went down on a bended Knee.
And begged the Lord to pardon me
For going on this bit of spree
Then I sat down on a chair.
And there made a solemn vow
That the price of a calf or yet a cow.
A pig, a bonham, or a sow.
I'd never drink in Aclare
I hope this ugly nasty fall
I got in Aclare against the wall.
Will be a caution to one and all(continues on next page)- Collector
