- As regards ploughs and spades they are not made in our district because we can buy them for cheaper. All our local blacksmiths made turf spades gates and fire cranes. hey do not think it great workmanship to make a gate or a fire crane. There was a great blacksmith living, fifteen years ago, about a half mile from the school. His name was William Maye. One time the key of the school got broken and the master brought it down to him to mend. He mended it and said that if it broke again he would make(continues on next page)
