    The next day when she got up the well was gone and a black lake was below the house at the foot of the hill. The tree that was growing at the well was all faded. Nobody ever uses the water for household use.

    There is a holy well at Ballintober in County Mayo, this well was founded by Saint Patrick; it has been famous for centuries and the town and parish got its name from the well. A lot of people get cured there.
