  1. In former times about seventy years ago children did not wear boots till they were twelve or thirteen years old or even older.
They did not wear shoes all the year round but they wore them during Winter. Nowadays children wear boots as soon as they are able to walk. The children of this district always go barefoot every Summer.
In some houses the feet water is kept inside till morning.
Boots are not made locally now but they were in my father’s time. There are very few shoe makers now in the country as they are sold cheaper in the shops.
Clogs were worn here over twenty years ago but they were not made locally but bought in the shops. They are not worn now.
Leather was not made in this district, to anybody’s knowledge.
Wear God’s leather with God’s weather.
