  1. (continued from previous page)
in the evening in summer it is a sign of good weather. When there is a halo around the moon it is a sign of rain. When the new moon appears on the sky and if it is in such a way that you could hang your coat on it (that is if the corner of the moon were turned upwards and able to hold a coat) tis a sign that you'll have good dry weather during that moon. When the clouds are black and move quickly along the sky it [pretels] rain. A rainbow in the morning is a sign of a bad day whereas a rainbow at night is a sign that the next day will be fine. A rainbow on Friday or Saturday evening is a sure sign that the weather for the next week will be very bad.
The southwest wind brings most rain to this district. When the sky is red all over it shows a coming storm. When the birds are flying high it is a sign of good weather, but when they fly low it is a sign of rain. If the crows are flying low in flocks and tumbling themselves upside down it's a sign of storm. When the hens start to comb their feathers and the ducks are continually quacking it is a sign of rain. When the cat turns his back to the fire tis a sign of bad weather. If Swithin's day is wet it will be wet for forty days, whereas if it is fine it will be fine for forty days.
