- (continued from previous page)twig rests on the ground and also the bow, and when the bird comes for the bait it is sure to be caught, as it always tips the bow and the crib falls.Slings and catapults were also made. Slings were made of cord and leather. Two pieces of cord of the same length are tied to each and a piece of leather about 5 inches longs and 1 inch wide. A stone is placed in the piece of leather, and by catching the cords, swinging the sling about the head, and lettings go one cord, the stone is fired.Catapults are made with rubber, a piece of leather and a piece of stick in the shape of a fork or Gabhlóg. A piece of leather of same length and shape as leather for a sling is tied to 2 pieces of rubber about 3 inches long. The pieces of rubber are then tied to each branch of the Gabhlóg. A stone is placed in the piece of leather, held in one hold (?) while the Gabhlóg is pulled to extend the pieces of rubber, the stone is then left go and it flies off.
