When they were beginning to dig for the treasure a hare appeared and the lads hit him with a spade and killed him. On account of this he found no treasure and lost the use of his right hand.
Treasure composed of valuable vessels worth a great sum of money is supposed to be hidden in the underground vault of Sheanacourt near Molahiffe, Faranfore, Co. Kerry. The McMahans of Castlefarm - near the place set out to look for it. They were searching for it when a bull appeared and chased them. The bull was believed to be a Guardian of the treasure and therefore noone looked for it since.
Collected by Con Henehan, Reamean, CastleIsland, Co. Kerry from Mrs Ellen Daly, Ahaneboy.
    Aged 89 years.
