A local song recounts what had happened.
You feeling-hearted Christians of every degree.
I claim you kind attention to sympathise with me.
Till I related the unhappy state that lately had befell
To those souls upon the Lough oh it is so brief to tell
The master and his scholars the monitor and wife
They went to boat upon the lake where they lost thir precious life.
The children's hearts were joyful at they spreading of the news.
When round Lough Silins water's they were going to have a cruise.
They were scarcely a mile out from the shore
When their cries were heard quite clear
The boat began to leak and struck them all with fear
T'would draw tears from the heart of the hardest hearted man
To see their friends and parents around Lough Silin's Strand.
Their father's they were franctic their mothers screaming wild.
Oh God above where is my love my own dear loving child
