- Forts were supposed to have been made by the fairies. They were made high up the way the fairies could see the enemies form far away off.
A fort is a circular field with bushes all round it, and a trench outside it, not to let the enemy come in. At night the fairies were seen dancing in the forts.
There are forts in Lisseril in Shantonagh in Owery and in Lisacullion.
If any one ploughs up a fort, bad luck follows him. Nobody ploughs up a lone bush because they think the fairies planted it.- Collector
